Joining the College

It was July 23, 2008, 0000 hrs.

My dad and I just came from Bhopal after submitting the counselling at MANIT Bhopal. We were excited about the prospective colleges that I applied. I was imagining that I joined a college of National repute and associating all the stories I ever heard about the life at a reputed institute. Afterall, it was a dedicated effort of more than 5 years that was bearing the fruits.

The earlier day, I was of the opinion of joining Aeronautical Engineering from any institute, than joining an institute of reputation. But their fee structure did not allow me to do so. I also explored Marine Engineering and how it could impact my earnings in the future. But then I received a letter saying I passed the examination without appearing in it. So I dropped Marine Engineering. I applied for Anna University too, after searching the University rankings online at a cyber Cafe. My mom and I were also about leave for Chennai soon. But their demands exceeded the expectations we had just before leaving home. So it was dropped.

Then we had just one source left - appear at the college of National Repute.

It was exactly 0000 hrs on the clock and my dad did all to convince me joining NIT Agartala. As we had to appear at the college on 25th. It was the moment I decided - Lets do this now! We took a bath, my mom prepared the meals for travel, and we set out at 2 AM in the morning. (that's even earlier than the raid in the movie 'Raid'!).

We took an Auto to the Bus-stand, then the bus to Bhopal, then the trail to Itarsi and then the train to Kolkata, which took about 24 hours. All the time, I was enjoying the travel. The cool air and the beautiful jungle scenes.. Wow!! it is soo mesmerising! I decided it! Yes! thats the best view I am ever gonna get. And this shall be for 4 years. Wow!

We reached Howrah, too a bath, hired a Cab to Airport and flew to Agartala! The first Flight experience shall be shared later on! Yes! it was new and I was so excited to be there.

I called my dean upon reaching Agartala. He asked to stay at a Hotel. The Auto waala looked genuine. He said there are a lot of people reaching here for joining the NIT. After a journey of more than 45 hours, I was not ready to take a rest! Ab to aaram NIT jakar hii karunga ( I'll now rest only after reaching NIT!) I took a small walk outside the hotel to explore the place I am going to stay. Cool place. But people here do not speak hindi. Nevertheless, It will be a new learning experience.

Morning at 10, we took it to Jirania, from Motor Stand Agartala. At Jirania, We had to wait half an hour to get some more people to start the vehicle to NIT. It was the most awesome travel experience I have ever had in my Life. Then I knew, I can rest now.

Travelling has always been fun! Specially when travelling with family. I have always missed those days since then. But that desire and to travel, never dies.
